Charlotte

Charlotte settles in deep
seeping through my veins.
I contain her for the most part, but my
heart can’t find her place.
She’s got a home in the crevices
inside,
a place to hide from the mistakes
that she has made.
She’s safely settled in, like a
parasite, a plague.

Lately she’s been taking all
the room inside.
Windows are blocked and breaking,
candles crushed,
light fixtures dangling.
She’s tangled a web around my heart, now
it’s hardly beating. Soon, her venom
will inject me and
I will be defeated.
