New Year, 2012

The world is laughing around me
I hear them through the cracks
in a dirty window

in a small room.

Crackles loom in through my ear drums
as fireworks light the sky
promising a brighter New Year.

My concentration breaks.

I have been trying to break in a
new life, but the silence
only reminds me
of an old one.

So, I break the silence with old movies
and the sound of a rickety old
dryer sucking the life
out of new clothes.

I wish I still had the old ones.

Such a fresh way to describe hundreds of things! Its universality is its power, this poem is really about a human desire to lament over the past even in the face of something beautiful and new.
